Role Description

Experienced Electrical Engineer required for ongoing contract role, working for the Housing Management and Property Services Department of our client, a local authority based in South London.

You will act as an expert on all matters relating to electrical engineering, and will advise senior management and external agencies/contractors on any Health & Safety and other legislation in any electrical engineering related matters within the Housing Property Service, demonstrating the technical and specialist ability to resolve all electrical engineering related matters innovatively whilst maintaining the highest level of technical quality.

Key responsibility areas:

1. To advise, in an electrical engineering consultant capacity, on projects from inception to completion, to achieve client and business unit project aims and objectives, undertaking duties required to act as client agent for client engineering projects.

2. To act as an Electrical Engineering consultant for projects frominception to completion, to achieve client and business unit project aims and objectives. This will include:

  • Contractor supervision
  • Inspection of work
  • Raising of repair orders
  • Scrutiny and certification of resulting invoices
  • Surveying and reporting on plant as required
  • Proactive monitoring of plant condition
  • Management of servicing programme
  • Liaison with contractors
  • Insurance Inspections
  • Clients and other parts of HPS and advising on all legal matters in line with the Health & Safety at Work Act and British Standard 7671 (as amended).

3. To act as an Electrical Engineering consultant for day-to-day management of engineering plant, to achieve client and business unit project aims and objectives

4. Undertaking Electrical engineering work on projects from inception to completion, to include the following:

  • Surveys
  • Feasibility studies
  • Reports
  • Preliminary design
  • Detailed designs
  • Produce specifications and schedule of works
  • Risk assessments
  • Constructional detailing
  • Preparation of tender documents
  • Examination of tenders
  • Site supervision
  • Contract administration and liaise with clients, tenant representatives and consultants, statutory authorities and other Directorates, as necessary at all stages.

5. To assist the Principal Electrical Engineer with the supervision, design and implementation of larger projects.



Experience/qualifications required:

Knowledge of electrical engineering installations in respect of design and maintenance requirements and related software programmes

Appropriate / Relevant construction degree (HND or equivalent)

A sound working knowledge of computer software applications – at least Microsoft Word, Access and Excel required.

Relevant professional experience in a similar role.


Job details:

Start date: September 2018

Rate: £26.97 per hour (Limited Company rate - please note that this role falls within IR35)

Working hours: 37.5 per week

Location: South/West London
