Role Description

We are now recruiting for a Senior Building Surveyor to join our client, a local authority in North London, to ensure that their private high rise residential buildings and hotels submit data on external wall construction for fire safety purposes. 

Key aspects of the role:

•Working closely with the Private Sector Housing Operations manager to identify sites which require a visit and survey.

•Contact building owners, managers and private consultants/surveyors to clarify information and building details.

•Sites will need visits and a general knowledge of identifying cladding systems is needed.

•Ensure building owner’s data is accurate for the building.  Auditing the owner’s responses and checking for inaccuracies.

•Update the Ministry of Housing database. Answer enquiries from the Ministry.

•Refer to Environmental Health and London Fire Brigade when required.

•Assist the Operations Manager in identifying high rise buildings. 

•The role combines building technical skills and knowledge with understanding of the educational built environment, and excellent communication practice.

Work Environment:

•The job holders will be required to carry out some visits to high rise buildings.

•The post-holder will be required to work in an ‘agile’ way in line with the local authority policy of a paperless and flexible work environment, which may include working at home for part of the week.  

•The postholder will operate within a complex and occasionally sensitive framework, and confidentiality and discretion must be observed at all times.

Technical Knowledge and Experience:

•An appropriate surveying or engineering qualification or equivalent experience

•Experience in drafting technical specifications for building fabric and/or M&E works

•Significant technical knowledge and survey/quality inspection experience

•Excellent interpersonal skills including influencing and negotiating skills. 

•Risk management experience and fire safety management in residential buildings is desirable. 

•Experience in following policies and procedures and using them to achieve agreed objectives

•Fluent and skilled in use of IT as a tool for records management, communication and other purposes. Must be literate in use of MSWord, MSExcel, and asset or facilities management databases

•Ability to innovate and take initiative yet be a team player

•Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing

 

Immediate start.

35 hrs per week, some working from home may be possible. 

Rate: £32.72 but negotiable depending upon experience level.

Location: North London

3 years references must be provided.
