Role Description

We are now recruiting for an experienced Clerk of Works for a contract assignment working for a local authority in North London

Job Specifiation: 

To provide the Major Works team with an on-site technical presence that helps ensure projects are delivered in a professional and technically sound manner.  The postholder is expected to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Council’s major works team with a responsibility to ensure contractors act in a timely manner to address identified concerns and to escalate any issues that require formal instruction or rectification

To be responsible for reviewing policies, procedures and processes in with other Clerk of Works within the Major Works team, with a specific focus on improving the customer experience.  Feedback these issues to PMs and Programme Manager for incorporation into policies, procedures e.g. the Major Works Project Management Manual etc. 

Skills/experience required:

As a regular and intrinsic part of this role requires you to speak to members of the public in English, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for this post. This role also requires you to be polite and courteous when conversing with the public.

•Relevant building related qualification or able to demonstrate competencies through relevant experience

•Extensive experience of working as a Clerk of Works, ideally in a social housing environment

•Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety Legislation including CDM, Fire Regulatory Order 2005, Health and Safety at Work Act, Asbestos Control of Asbestos etc.

•Knowledge of the construction process from Design to Completion

•Experience of work in a customer focused environment

•Member relevant professional body e.g. The Institute of Clerks of Works (not essential)


  • Relevant building qualification (HNC or above)
  • Demonstrates on-going CPD in relation to H&S

Other Special Requirements:

  • May have to work outside normal working hours from time to time
  • Driving Licence


Job Details:

3 month contract, with possibility of renewal

Rate: £29.28 p/h (Ltd/Umbrella rate)

This role is within IR35

Hours: 36 hrs per week

Location: North London
